Woman Shares Incredibly Personal Photo To Raise Awareness Of Her Condition

Worrying about unsightly spots, marks and hair on our bodies is the uncomfortable part of being a woman. While being self-conscious about ones appearance is common, sharing these insecurities to the world isn’t. However, his 26-year-old blogger shared hers with the world for an incredible reason.

Tina-Marie Beznec, from Perth, Australia, has Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). While this condition might sound familiar to many women, and their affected families, some of the symptoms and side effects of this disease may not be.

This is the reason Tina took to the internet to raise awareness of what life with PCOS can look like. Along with the powerful image above, Tina wrote:

“As well as depression, anxiety, infertility, weight gain, hormonal imbalances, bloating, abdominal pains, acne, cysts, increased risk of cancer and everything else, a lot of woman including myself have to deal with facial hair!”

PCOS, an endocrine disorder, affects up to 12% of women. Linked to the abnormal production of hormones in the body, the condition is thought to contribute to the development of ovarian cysts. There are a wide and varied range of symptoms linked to PCOS, which means the condition can often become overlooked. Currently, the cause of the condition is unknown within the medical profession.

Or alternatively, ovaries can start producing high levels of testosterone which leads to unwanted hair on the body. This irregular hair growth, known as Hirsutism, often comes hand-in-hand with acne for those suffering from PCOS.

So, fully aware of all of the serious, embarrassing and unusual effects that come with PCOS, Tina felt the need to spread awareness of what many women living with the condition go through.

“Do you know how UNFEMININE this can make a woman feel?!? I’ve always been super self-conscious about it, but really just have to put this out there because I want create more awareness around this syndrome and how much it can impact someone’s life especially if they don’t know they have it.”
