Scientists Discover Unintentional Radiation Shield
Recently, scientists have discovered that we have unintentionally caused a radiation shield around our planet by constantly broadcasting radio waves all around us. This shield is essentially a barrier encompassing our atmosphere.
This discovery is due to the Van Allen Probes from NASA, which have illuminated the fact that humankind’s influence on the plan is not just related to Earth’s surface, as well as the climate. Instead, scientists have determined that VLF radio communications are mixing with atoms and materials in space, which leads to the creation of an accidental barrier that serves to limit high-energy particle radiation from space.
These very low frequency communications are specifically utilized in regards to communication across bodies of water, primarily the ocean, to connect with submarines as they patrol and protect the Earth. These VLF radio communications have only been around since the end of the Cold War when they started becoming prominent. This timeline has permitted researchers to test and survey the status of the environment around the planet in relation to high-energy radiation, as well as how radio communications could have had an effect on this environment.
For a long time, humankind has influenced the landscape on Earth. However, scientists have discovered that humans can also affect the environment in space. Certain forms of communications, including low frequency and VLF, have shown their ability to affect space particles and their movements. Occasionally, these combinations have aided in creating and forming a barrier surrounding the planet, which acts as a protective shield from radiation. These findings were published by Space Science Reviews.
Phil Erickson, the assistant director for MIT Haystack Observatory, which can be found in Westford Massachusetts, said, “A number of experiments and observations have figured out that, under the right conditions, radio communications signals in the VLF frequency range can, in fact, affect the properties of the high-energy radiation environment around the Earth.”
Transmissions from the VLF communications are sent from ground stations in order to converse with submarines that are traveling in deep waters. These signals are primarily used for conversations underneath the planet’s surface, but they can also be used to transmit outside of the atmosphere, which causes Earth to be covered in a VLF shield.
The Van Allen probes discovered a correlation between the outward reach of the VLF shield and the interior edge of the radiation belts, which are defined as a grouping of charged particles that are continuously and constantly kept in position by the magnetic fields of our planet. Dan Baker, who acts as director of the University of Colorado’s Laboratory for the Atmospheric and Space Physics, called the lower limit an “impenetrable barrier.” He also theorized that if human VLF signals did not exist, the boundary would reach towards Earth at a higher degree.
If the research is continued, VLF signals could possibly act as a solution to excess radiation from the environment and can serve as a removal tool.
