Old Horse With No Ears Is Not About To Stay In His Kill Pen, Walks Out With Unsuspecting Rescuers

Bubbles the horse may be old, but he is one determined gelding. When rescue was in his reach, he did not just stay and wait to be freed, and that’s why he’s still alive today.

The senior horse with two missing ears from frostbite just wanted to live out his last days in a quiet pasture, nibbling on grass and soaking up some sunshine.

Sadly, he had found himself in a “kill lot” in Mexico where other unwanted horses and donkeys had been rounded up for slaughter. But his story doesn’t end there.

Volunteers from Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue unintentionally came to his aid.

The Texas-based organization adopts, rehabilitates, and then finds homes for abandoned and neglected horses and donkeys. The group happened upon Bubbles kill lot intending to rescue nine mini donkeys.

But Bubbles wasn’t about to the stay behind.

“This skinny grey gelding walked straight up to our trailer, past the gates, disregarding the commands of the kill lot employees,” Becky’s Hope posted on Facebook.

“He was intent that this was his ride out of there. We stood there staring as this old guy with crumbled ears from frostbite waited patiently for the group of mini donkeys to catch up so he could jump on the ‘freedom trailer’ out of there.”

“There was just no way we could leave him behind!”

They let Bubbles into the trailer and took him to safety.

Because of the way he was found, no one really knows anything about Bubbles’ history, or how his ears became subjected to frostbite.

But, the volunteers at Becky’s do know that he is an incredible horse and adapted quickly to his new life.

While Bubbles was making new friends like Toga the goat, his touching story was making the rounds on that big wide web. People were amazed by his courage and wanted to help.

In no time, Becky’s Hope started getting letters and packages addressed to Bubbles.

“We did post an Amazon wish list,” explained volunteer Missy Smith.

“People love Bubbles and they responded. We rarely get this many donations at once.”

Bubbles and the team at Becky’s Hope are eternally grateful for the love and support of strangers.

“We are an all-volunteer organization and have always been funded exclusively through donations,” said another volunteer named Gina.

“We have many kill pen and auction intercepted horses and donkeys here, and these kind donations benefit all of them.”

“Bubbles really is as sweet and smart as we say he is,” Missy said.
